Okay, I know that most fic writers are discouraged to say this on such an occasion, as it makes (some) other people think less of them. However, this is not fic. It is a(n) (icon) tutorial.

So I shall say it: Folks, this is my first-ever attempt at writing and putting together a guide for mass consumption. So, please, for the sake of other people being able to clearly understand it, if you cannot understand something, comment on it so I can fix it.

We will be making this icon today.

Step 1: Taking this pic, we open it in Photoshop

Step 2: Select crop tool (third row down in main tools palate, first colum) and in the Width box, type 100 px. Do the same for height, and press enter.
2b: Crop picture so that it looks like this:

Step 3: Go to Filter menu>Render>>Lighting Effects, and apply settings according to this:

Step 4: Press Ctrl+J to duplicate layer, and set blending mode to Soft Light, shown highlighted here:

Step 5: Install this brush (Yes, that's Santa) :

5a. (for those who don't know how to open or install brushes in Photoshop) Open the file you are going to make into a brush.
5b. Click Edit> Define Brush Preset.
5c. Click 'OK' in the dialogue box that pops up.
5d. Select the brush from the brush palate in upper right-hand corner.

Step 6: Apply it to the image as shown, in the lower left corner, blending mode:Soft Light, Opacity: 44%.

Step 7 Apply a brush from crazy_perfume (located as part of a brush file here) set to Hard Light, 54% opacity.

Step 8: Apply this gradient: (located here, seen eight rows down and three colums over) like so (Overlay, 59%):

Step 9: Duplicate that layer by pressing Ctrl+J, and set it to Linear Burn, 34%

Step 10: Add a border brush by teh_indy, and you're done!

Hope that was helpful!

YAY! *adores you* I've been looking at icon tutorials for a while now, but being the idiot that I am, didn't know how to import brushes. This helps muchly ^_^

As for the tutorial itself, it was great. :) I mean, really. I don't have a single criticism. ^_^
